The Mitsubishi MiEV has a top speed of around 80mph and a range of about 100 miles between overnight charging, although the company claims that a 3-phase 200 volt 50kW QuickCharger will give you an 80 percent charge in half an hour. A 330-volt lithium-ion battery is located under the floor powering a permanent magnet electric motor.

The MiEV is the third in MMC's MiEV series. It is based on the i minicar platform, i MiEV replaces the normal engine and fuel tank with lithium-ion batteries, motor, inverter and other EV components in a rear-midship layout. There are two main advantages of the rear-midship layout, they are increased cabin space and space for the EV power train. The power-train is placed in front of the rear axle line, which gives more cabin space for passengers. It also provides space for battery storage. An onboard charger allows the vehicle to be changed from standard electric sockets. The company plan to have the car as a fleet vehicle in Japan by 2009 and if all is well they will release it to the public by 2010.

Mitsubishi also have a car called the i MiEV Sport concept it is a coupe variation on the i MiEV with a "fastback" roofline and is rumored to be fast, it is constructed using a rigid lightweight aluminum frame that helps improve performance and range. It uses multiple electric motors. One 20 kW electric motor built into each front wheel, work together with a powerful 47 kW motor to drive the rear wheels.
